The Shot Heard Round The Cosmos

Bullitt
Everybody likes the behind the scene story that results in a blockbuster hit. The “Bible” is still the best-selling book of all time, for a long time. The impact it has had on history is unparalleled on any scale you choose to measure it on. The ‘Shot heard round the world’ is that seminal event in America that started the Revolutionary war and eventually resulted in America breaking free from England. The impact is nothing but gargantuan.

There was another “Shot” that was earth shaking, resulting in the rapid spread of sin and destruction across the globe. It was a shot that was felt all the way to heaven. What could have been so terrible that even heaven felt the repercussions?

Only the prophet Isaiah records exactly what happened. Ever heard of the Five sins of Satan? Isaiah details them in his book. Isaiah records the pride of Satan, the ‘morning star’.

Satan said in his heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the scared mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” Isaiah 14 What do you do with an intelligent angel that tests the limits of God’s patience? There can only be one most High who occupies the Throne in heaven. It was time for Satan to be invited out of heaven in a most spectacular fashion!

Jesus gives us the details of what he personally witnessed on that fateful day when multitudes witnessed “The Shot Heard Round The Cosmos”. Jesus said, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven”. Luke 10:18 The next time you feel bulletproof, kindly remember—pride goes before the fall!

Make no mistake, the devil is powerful, prowling around looking for someone to devour, but Jesus is much more powerful. Jesus’ resurrection shattered Satan’s deathly power. “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14. Paul makes it crystal clear in the book of Colossians: true believers have been transferred from darkness to light, from slavery to freedom, from guilt to forgiveness, and from the power of Satan to the power of God. Feels good doesn’t it? The next time you say your prayers—thank Him.
