Perfection Defined

Jesus is perfect

defination

The Author of our faith and salvation:  (Hebrews 5:9 and 12:2)

Christ is perfection.  Perfect in his obedience to the Father, perfect in his sufferings, perfect in finishing his sacrifice on the cross through shedding his holy blood through death, perfect in his life’s messages and miracles, perfect in his mercy and grace, perfect in being glorified in heaven; this shows salvation is complete and Christ alone is the sole author of it.  Let’s remember, Christ is the High Priest.  Christ did not take upon himself the glory of becoming the High Priest but was appointed to the role by God.  “For the Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: you are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek”.  Psalm 110:4

Christ’s human life was not a script that he passively followed.  It was a life that he chose freely and gave freely.  “The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again.  No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own accord”. John 10:17  No one could kill Christ without his consent.  Christ’s death and resurrection, as part of God’s plan for the salvation of the world, were under God’s full control at all times!  Christ’s actions were a continuous process of making the will of God the Father his own.  Christ chose to obey, even though obedience led to suffering and death.  Because Christ obeyed perfectly, even under great trial, he can help us obey, no matter how difficult obedience can be.  Christ was always perfect.  By obeying, he demonstrated his perfection to us, not to God or to himself.  Hence, he is now able to offer eternal salvation to those who chose to obey him.  “For the Lord has sworn and will not change his mind: you are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek”.  This signifies that Christ will never abuse his divine position, and his reign will be eternal.  Christ is, however, not the author of salvation to all men; because all men do not, will not, and many will refuse to follow and obey him.

The dictionary gives us two definitions of the word author.  One who brings anything into being, and a beginner of any action or state of things.  1 Corinthians 14:33 says, “God’s not the author of confusion but of peace.”  The King James Bible describes Christ as: ”the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him”.  Hebrews 5:9  The reference in Hebrews 12:2 says that Christ is, “the author and finisher perfecter of our  faith” let us fix our eyes upon him.  Point of fact—Christ is not merely the “formal” cause of our salvation.  He is the “concrete and active cause” of our salvation.  The life that Christ had was not from another; the Author of life must be He who has life from Himself!

Whatever you are considering as the focus of life, Christ is better.  He is the perfect revelation of God, the final and complete perfect sacrifice for sin, the perfect compassionate and understanding mediator, and the only way for eternal life.  Please read Hebrews and begin to see history and life from God’s perspective.  You may not be perfect, but, Jesus thinks you’re to die for.  Give yourself unreservedly and completely to Christ.  Don’t settle for anything less!
