Shades of Pharaoh?

In the picture above a giant glacier in Antarctica appears to be bleeding blood. There’s nothing to fear, it’s not special effects from Hollywood or trick photography. The water oozing out of this glacier is thought to be from microbes living over 1,000 feet deep in the glacier. Scientists think the microbes produce an iron-based compound that is mixed with salt water and when exposed to fresh air and sunshine oxidizes and turns red. Spooky, huh?

Over 3,500 years ago, spooky was real! In the land of Egypt, Pharaoh reigned with an iron scepter. Egypt’s wealth came from slave labor. This slave labor was in the form of Hebrews serving the mighty Pharaoh. When the time was right, God prepared a Hebrew, who was raised Egyptian to confront Pharaoh and demand that he release the Hebrews from bondage. Along with the demand came stern warning, if Pharaoh refused, a series of plagues would fall on the land of Egypt and its people. Pharaoh bristled and refused—then the plagues started coming; one by one—ten in all.

The first plague was unimaginable. God’s spokesperson, Moses, was directed to tell Aaron, his brother, to “Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt—over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs—and they will turn to blood”. Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden buckets and stone jars.” Exodus 7:19. And it happened, exactly that way and was recorded just as the Lord said.

In that example, only the Nile turned to blood, in the Book of Revelation, chapter 16, the entire sea turned into blood! It seems like God was dealing with more than one hardened heart. Some lessons need to be taught twice.
