Ever ask yourself, or been
asked, why studying the Bible is Important?
Many will say: “Well it’s to…” and others will say “Well it’s to…” Others will say “To…” What say you?
The Bible Storyteller will answer a few top ten “To” reasons to study
your Bible.
To settle the issue of our own salvation: “…and how from
infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for
salvation through faith in Christ Jesus”.
2 Timothy 3:15
Remember,
Paul says keep enduring as I have, keep reading, preach the Word (in and out of
season), pour your heart and soul , out in faith—live your faith. At all times be faithful!
To grow spiritually: “But grow in
the grace and knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory now and forever! Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18
Remember:
Peter stresses no matter where you are in your journey, or, how mature you are
in your faith, the sinful world always will challenge our faith. Sin is prowling!
To receive personal blessings and
encouragement: “For everything that was written in the past
was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the
Scriptures we might have hope.” Romans
15:4
Remember:
The more we learn and know what God has done in the past, the greater the
confidence we have about what he will do in the days ahead. Trust him!
To receive personal guidance: “Your word is a
lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
Psalm 119:105
Remember: In this life, we all walk through a dark
forest of evil and need a guiding light to show us the way ahead and keep us
out of danger. Study the Bible so you
will be able to stay on the right path.
There is danger in ‘dem dar’ woods!
To defend ourselves against the devil: “Put on the
full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s
schemes.” Ephesians 6:11
Remember:
Satan is a vicious fighter see 1 Peter 5:8) and wants you (your soul). Use God’s full armor, fight in the strength
of the church, whose power comes from the Holy Spirit. Stay focused!
To teach God’s truth to the next
generation: “These commandments that I give you today are
to be upon your hearts. Impress them
upon your children. Talk about them when
you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when
you get up”. Deuteronomy 6:6-7
Remember: Think about God daily, teach his commandments
to your children and live each day by the guidelines of his Word. Have a God-fearing life and home!
To be able to counsel others: “Let the word
of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in
your hearts to God”. Colossians 3:16
Remember:
You don’t have to be able to carry a tune to sing His praises!
To be ready to speak with unbelievers
about Christ: “But in your hearts set apart Christ as
Lord. Always be prepared to give an
answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you
have. But do this with gentleness and
respect”. 1 Peter 3:15
Remember: Do others see your hope in Christ? Go ahead and tell them what Christ has done
in your life!
To verify that the teaching of others is
the truth: “Now the Bereans were of more noble character
than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and
examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true”. Acts 17:11
Remember: How do you evaluate sermons and a pastor’s
teachings? A preacher or teacher who
gives God’s true message will never contradict or explain away anything that is
in God’s Word. Simple!
To present ourselves approved to God: “Do your best
to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be
ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth”. 2 Timothy 2:15
Remember: Consistency and diligent studying God’s Word
is vital. Otherwise, you’ve missed your
true purpose for living!
