Free on Your Own Recognizance?

Free on your own Recognizance
Who do you know personally that has an addiction? Before you answer, let’s define what an addiction is. Mr. Webster says that an addiction is when someone devotes themselves or gives oneself habitually or compulsively to something. Now here is the point where you better know what “habitually” and “compulsively” means! Not 100% sure? Consult Mr. Webster again.

When we think of an addiction, we think of being addicted to caffeine or alcohol or drugs. Schools now open. Fact—you can be addicted to almost anything. Surprised? Disappointed? Are you nodding your head to agree?

Fact—Getting addicted to something harmful doesn’t happen overnight.

Fact—Getting over a dangerous addiction doesn’t happen overnight.

Fact—Getting treatment, interventions and medicines for addictions doesn’t mean you’re cured.

Tired of constructive criticism from well-meaning friends and brimstone preachers? Want some friendly advice from an expert that pertains directly to your personal well-being? If not, you can head for the liquor cabinet, pour yourself a tall one, pop an oxy, shoot up a stream of any various poisons, smoke or sniff "it" and chill out for the rest of the day. If you’re interested, listen carefully. Jesus spoke to those who believed in His mission and His work carefully. Bible verses in Romans 12:2, informs us: “Don’t be conformed to this world”.

What did Jesus mean by this? He meant simply, don’t live according to the “style and manner” of this present age. Scripture is very specific. How many of you are habitually or compulsively addicted to cable television? You say, so what? I enjoy cable and the enormity of a thousand channels and unlimited movies and unrestricted talk shows and the comedy selections, and the sports programs, and the political news programs, and more. Question—Are you handcuffed to being entertained and pandered to? Let’s be brutally honest here. Time is one commodity that God has given us as a measure of control over. Show God you can be responsible with what He’s given you. Addictions are overcome every day. Just ask, “Help me God” to discern my time. Get addicted to things in the bible: ”bible verses”, “Christ”, “church”, “prayer” the “gospel”.

“Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart”. Psalm 37:4
