Let There Be Lights?

In the book of Genesis, where everything is created, God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light! It’s interesting that light was created on Day One, and the sun was created on Day Four. So what kind of light are we talking about here? Obviously there was a fixed light source outside the earth. The Bible talks about Abraham’s offspring being like the stars in the sky. How many stars are there? Have you counted them lately? Anyone surprised? The cosmos has millions and millions of galaxies, and each galaxy has millions and millions of stars. The Hubble telescope has taken thousands of pictures of galaxies near and far, and from what NASA tells us, the universe is—Expanding! Is anything impossible for God? Anyone surprised?

These things we know: It may be difficult to understand, but we know that anything is possible with God. One thing you may not be aware of is that all these stars in the heavens, seen and unseen, are all different! How do we know that, easy, the Bible tells us each star has its own name! Billions and billions of stars with billions and billions of names! Anyone surprised?

“He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name.” Psalm 147:4

All this light affects the light of day and the nighttime. But, there is “One” other light that has come into the world, Jesus Christ. Many people don’t want their lives exposed to God’s light because they are afraid of what will be revealed. They don’t want to be changed. Don’t be surprised when these same people are threatened by your desire to obey God and do what is right, because they are afraid that the light in you may expose some darkness in their lives. And there are billions and billions of names involved here, too, but they are not galaxies or stars, they are God’s most prized possession. They are people like you and I. Anyone surprised?

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life,” John 8:12. Keep in mind that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life and whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever ‘does not’ believe stands condemned. Jesus tells us the verdict concerning belief and said in John 3: 19-21, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” This theme of Light is Jesus. Anyone surprised?
