Mega disasters are the stock and trade of Hollywood. Aliens destroying Washington D.C., a massive earthquake causing California to slide into the ocean, a meteor the size of Texas heading for Rhode Island! Some ideas are the fertile imagination of a writer thinking of the impossible. But what if a writer thought of fire falling from the sky and destroying a couple of large cities! It wouldn't be their imagination; it actually happened!
Forget aliens, natural disasters, and wayward asteroids. Would you believe that an angry God was behind the calamity? The terrible sins of Sodom and Gomorrah, ‘cried out to heaven’ for punishment. An omniscient God was aware of what was happening in Sodom. His justice moved Him to demonstrate that He was in full possession of the facts. Sodom and Gomorrah have the unenviable distinction of being wiped off the face of the earth by an angry deity!
Genesis 19 records the horrific event. However it was accomplished, the surrounding cities witnessed a mega disaster. Imagine travelers walking across that barren wasteland years later wondering what on earth could have happened!
We know what happened:
Judgment was announced, then postponed,
then delivered! Does God keep His word?
